National Institute of Technology (formerly known as Regional Engineering College), Tiruchirappalli (NITT) is one of the premier educational institutions in India. NITT is actively involved in creating scientists, engineers, and technocrats to cater the country's growing need for research and development (R&D) and technological manpower.
It offers 10 undergraduate and 27 postgraduate programs in disciplines spanning engineering, science, architecture, and management. It has been declared as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India under the NIT Act. According to the NIRF ranking of the Indian Universities 2019 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, NIT Trichy has been ranked as the 10th best Institute in Engineering category and Top among the NITs. NIT Trichy is the only NIT listed in the Top 250 QS Asia University Rankings 2018. The institute has signed MoUs with various industries and institutions both in India and abroad to promote collaborative research and consultancy. It has been awarded FICCI University of the Year 2017, CII-AICTE best industry linked institute, FICCI excellence award for social responsibility (2017), FICCI excellence award for Employability (2016).
The Department of Chemical Engineering at NITT was established in 1967 and regarded as one of the premier institute for Chemical Engineering in India by Industries and Academia. It offers B. Tech programme in Chemical Engineering, M. Tech programmes in Chemical Engineering and Process Control & Instrumentation and Doctoral programme. The department is backed by highly qualified and experienced faculty members and are involved in teaching and research with a main focus on energy and environmental engineering, control systems and separations. The department is equipped with several state-of-art laboratories, computing facilities and analytical facilities.
The global emphasis on environmental sustainability has increased significantly in the recent past. The initiatives towards this concern by the Government of India, citizens and industries accelerated the development of environmentally benign materials, products and processes. Nowadays, chemical industries are striving hard to implement the energy efficient and eco-friendly technologies. On the other hand, the emphasis is on the utilization of well-manageable renewable and recycled resources for the development of various materials for environmental improvement throughout the lifecycle without any reduction in the performance. It is evident that the engineers/scientists need to play a vital role on this issue. This conference aims to impart knowledge and to have constructive deliberations on the technologies to be developed to achieve these important goals. Importantly, this conference will connect the dots by integrating scientists and engineers with different background and help to identify environmentally friendly materials or evolve novel products, through innovative processes.
